Ravenhill recalled that upon telling Kane that he thought Cleansed was sensible, she smiled and replied, “Yeah, properly, I’m in love”. A few months later, when she directed Georg Büchner’s Woyzeck on the Gate, Kane eliminated the opportunity of redemption for any of the characters. “Yeah, properly, I fell out of affection,” Kane defined. As explored in her remaining two performs, 1998’s Crave, and 4.48 Psychosis, Kane had fallen out with the concept of affection itself. She wrote Crave beneath the pseudonym Marie Kelvedon to detach herself from the associations of her identify, permitting her to discover a free-flowing poetic narrative by means of the voices of 4 characters known as C, M, B, and A. The characters largely trade single strains, till A bursts into an extended monologue about all of the little romantic issues she desires to do along with her lover. The stream of consciousness twists and turns between anger and love within the method which defines Kane’s worldview.
